Amanda Brugel

Brugel is the only Canadian actor in the Season 1 group. She was seen only once or twice. The actress has been a cast as a member since. Asked about her role in the show and if there were any parallels to her personal life beyond the lens, Brugel revealed that she had used her experience of discrimination based on race in relation to the way that Marthas are dealt with. "I am not content to use it in her house position as the Martha but also, as I said, it's my previous instances where I felt like I'm being held down by circumstances because of race." It's not the first time I've been physically assaulted in real life because of my race. However, I've definitely suffered verbal abuse. When someone says something threatening or smacking them in any way, I'll resort to racial or physical insults that are real to me. It's almost like I punch her during every scene.
